Rear Sprocket - Loose bolts
I was going to go for a ride the other day and noticed that one of the bolts for my rear sprocket fell out and was laying on the floor as it somehow worked itself loose.
Anyway, I went to check the other bolts and a couple more were loose too. I tried to tighten the loose ones but they kept turning as though they were stripped. The bolt that fell out doesn't seem to "grab" the threads inside either.
Is it possible to rethread the hole using a larger bolt or should I just buy a new internal coupling?
Rock bottom here I come
This doesn't sound good. I would not recommend enlarging the holes so rule that one out. This leave you with two viable options.
1) Replace the hub or carrier.
2) Have a machine shop install helicoils or something similar to repair the hub.
Thanks for the reply...
I fixed the problem last night. I guess it is a good thing to have an older bike cause there were lock nuts on the back that held the bolts. They were just coming loose!
Next time I'll before I post up!
