Okay, so I’m not really worried about MY $.01 but what happens if they overbill ALL of their customers $.01 ??
Here’s the situation:
I went into the store today and made a $7.50 purchase. I was charged $8.56 (which I didn’t question at the time, but then for some reason worked it out in my head). Here are my calculations:
$ 7.50 (purchase)
$ 1.05 (14% tax – GST/PST)
$ 8.55 (total)
So, how did the Old Navy register come up with the extra $.01 on the bill ?(there is NO rounding up at all in this case)
Who out there works for Old Navy? I'd be interested in knowing what the average ring outs for a day is at one of the stores? I figure if it is (conservatively) $10,000 total ring out a day then Old Navy is actually fraudulently getting an extra $100 a day – not a lot but $3100 a month, over $36,000 a year…
Anyways, I just thought that it was interesting that an American company was ripping off their customers like this (or am I calculating something wrong?).
You may want to check the register calculations when you shop there as you are not obligated to pay anything other than purchase price & tax.
