I was out at Deep Cove sailing today and when I returned lo and behold, someone had cut the strap off of my helmet and taken it, scratching the hell out of my bike I might add.
At the time I was worried about my helmet rolling around in the boat and getting damaged, but looks like it was worth the risk.
Is such helmet theft indeed a rare event, or am I simply naive?
I'm surprised because I thought cutting the chin strap pretty much made the helmet useless as a saftey device--is it even possible to buy parts to replace the rings? If so, wouldn't it be obvious to the shop selling the parts that the helmet was stolen? Is it worth posting a reward notice to all the shops for information, so I can perhaps visit the dude and give him a severe beating, or I guess track him down for the cops? Obviously it's not about the money, but some vague desire for justice, or perhaps a mild form of vengence--not sure yet
Is deep cove known as a high-crime area? I didn't think so. Will probably report it to the cops, if only to nudge police stats towards the current reality in Deep Cove.
