My personal opinion is no. Unless you know the person selling, and can trust that person with your life (which is what you will be doing, right?), how can you know what the helmet has gone thru?
There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers.

Yup buy new, if budget is an issue, new KBCs with DOT & Snell with graphics can be had for C$100-$150 Shipped, fully declared, fully dutied. Just search the more reputable online stores.

BTW what is this bike show in Feb you guys are talking about?? Is it an annual thing where they sell stuff at discounts or is it like a show of new bikes/gear??

Depends. I bought a used helmet from a trusted BCSB member. No worries.

I would be very careful buying from someone I ddn't know, though.

if you go online you can find some good deals. My buddy bought a couple of new helmets from Ebay. Suomy race replica for around $200usd shipped compared to $500 up here for the same helmet.

DON'T DO IT! unless you know the person and can trust that the helmet has never been dropped. Helmets are meant to withstand ONE imapct..... so if its been dropped before it should be thrown out

Helmets have an effective life span of 6 years from the date of manufacture TOPS. I think Shoei recomends 5 as a max. Beyond that the EPS foam liner (not the padding but the thick and harder inner liner) becomes too hard from age to properly soak up a bad impact and you risk serious injury if you need to USE the helmet as intended rather than as a fashion statement. If you know the helmet and it's history then fine but pay the price based on how much of the 6 years is left on it. If there's 3 years left then it should be half the original price or less depending on condition.
