Just wondering if anyone has been down to south america in the last year or so. I am heading down on Sunday for 6 months and was seeing if anyone had any good pointers or things I should do or see other than the obvious. Will be going to Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador.

Torres Del Paine - sweet hike/climb
Perito Moreno Glacier/El Calafate - gigantic glacier - ice climbing/hiking
Fitzroy - cool mtn (logo of Patagonia clothing)
Cerro Torre - Good site
Ushuaia - Southern most city in the world(Argentina) and u can go to Antarctica
Peninsula Valdez - whale watching
Machu Pichu - leave from Cusco - hike in!
Nazca Lines - good from the air
Aconcogua - highest point in SA - 18 day excursion
Galapagos - take a small cruise on a sailing ship

Buenos Aires and Lima, Sao Paolo(didn't feel too safe though)
just a few thoughts ... its tricky at times getting from place to place unless you fly.
Just remember, if you pick up bits and pieces from the dialect: what could be a nice thing to say to someone in one country, could get you stabbed in the other. Ah, the diversity of spanish dialects, gotta love that.
