I've removed the battery from my bike recently to do some maintenance. My trickle charger manual says the connect the postive lead to the battery terminal, but connect the negative side to a min. 18" long, 18 AWG wire lead connected to the negative terminal.
Is this necessary to do? Or will it hurt the battery if the negative is connected directly to the battery terminal?
I guess I am more curious as to why it recommends do to this.
I've been always trickle charging my battery while it is on my bike. I'd hook up the positive to the battery terminal, but the negative would be attached to a ground on the bike.
