Then here's your chance to do something about it. The municipal elections are upon us in 5 days. Certain city councils are trying their damndest to block the constructin of a new highway and bridge. As a person who wastes 2 hours of his day everyday on this ridiculous mess, this pisses me off. From tracking news reports of the highway for the last couple of years I have determined:
1. Current Burnaby Mayor Derek Corrigan is against any new highway. He believes that 20,000 cars sitting for 6 hours a day is better for the environment than a free-flowing highway.
2. Current Coquitlam city council is against the new highway/bridge. After starting the decimation of Burke Mountain, this council also has the gall to cite environmental issues as the reason for blocking the bridge. (see above for ridiculousness of this statement).
The other municipalities? Well I don't know. These two are the one's I have witnesses be outwardly anti-bridge.
The transportation future of this city depends on who governs it. As a side-note, it is primarily socialist-dominated city councils who do no support private car ownership and think we should (and can?) all take buses everywhere.
Voting is November 19th. You do NOT have to be pre-registered to vote; just show up. Voting is usually at your local elementary school, however you will have to confirm the place for your area.
