For those hardware geeks out there, can you help me out here?
I've ASRock P4S61 motherboard with Intel P4 3.0 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 80 GB drive and CD-RW, on-board graphic card as well as GeForce FX-5200 card. It has 2 IDE controllers on-board, primary is used for hard drive (master) and secondary for CD-RW (master). These are the original configuration since I bought it last year.
Recently I bought AOpen DVD +/- R/RW drive and was trying to install it today. Because each IDE controller can support up to 2 devices, I thought I'd make the CD-RW slave and set the DVD-RW as master.
Ok, after powering down, unplug power cable etc. I moved CD-RW from top slot to the one below it and put DVD on top slot. Connect the 39-pin IDE cable, power cable and audio cable to each of the drives, and reconnect all external cables. When I powered on, my monitor is showing "Signal Missing" and keeps flashing this message. In the meantime, when it boots up there are a series of beeps (maybe 6 or 7, then quiet for about 5 seconds, then another 2-3 beeps, then quiet) and nothing happen. Power seems to be ok as the DVD/CD trays can be opened, fan is spinning.
I've checked all the obvious like loose connections internal and external, but I have no idea what is happening here. Mind you everything worked before I shut it down to install. I've installed different pieces of devices on other computers before (hard drive, floppy, CD, PCI cards) but not DVD drive. I don't think there is much different in concept with DVD, but then I wouldn't call myself an expert either. Restoring to previous configuration (disconnect DVD and re-set CD-RW to be master) made no difference now, so I'm hooped.
Any tip or suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks.
