Decided to head out yesterday afternoon in the sunshine for a quick squirt on the FZ6, put in some fresh octane and send a stream of fresh electrons into the battery. I have a steep driveway, so I always run the bike out of the garage and down the driveway to the street before firing her up, to keep fumes out of the garage while she warms up. Halfway down the driveway I grabbed a tiny amount of front brake, and discovered - in a nanosecond - how bloody slippery pebble-pave driveways are after a few months of rain and no sun. Front washed out and I dumped it with very little style and a lot of noise. Her intimacy with the driveway was intense. The fairings exploded and even before I felt the pain in my shin, I was tallying up how expensive this loss of virginity was likely to be.
Now, since this is the season for good tidings, I was very pleased to discover that all the parts I need to put Humpty together again came to only $300! Three fairings, a crankcase cover and a bar end. So while I would prefer to NOT have done this, I am pleased that I chose to do it in my driveway at walking speed rather than on a public road at (ouch) highway speed.
