    Under the radar. Hopefully.
    Honda. Still. Again.

    How many bikes, for a perfect garage?

    All this talk lately of different motorcycles....what is the perfect number to suit all your riding wants and needs?
    Just as a closet does not contain all jeans, or all suits, or all white socks (perhaps yours does...) a garage, in a perfect world, does not contain just one motorcycle.
    I'm not suggesting collecting or amassing the greatest number of motorcycles is the answer, what is the minimum number of motorcycles required to fulfill your riding desires?
    For me, I can get away with (not in order of importance)

    1/ Goldwing.
    Undeniable comfort for the long distance vacation.
    2/ KLR650.
    Utilitarian, modest mode of transport for the Yukon or Alaska vacation, or points all the way south to South America.
    3/ Harley Davidson Electra Glide Standard.
    For me, there is the original, and the rest are (albeit capable) imitations. I'll take the original, thanks.
    4/ Honda SuperHawk.
    More than 2 cylinders can be wasteful. Light, capable of more than I am when the asphalt bear hard to port or starboard, something that keeps a smile on your face, gazing at it in the garage, or swinging a leg off it after Hwy 6 to Nelson and back home.
    5/ something more exotic, perhaps a Moto Guzzi. Ducati ST4S.....

    In a perfect world you would have your choice of absolutly any bikes so without a lot of thought put into it I wouldnt be able to decide which exact models but I can say in my perfect garage there would be
    1. multiple sportbikes, (I'd probably get borderline to do me up some sweet custom bike aswell)
    2. A cruiser for sure, something a bit more comfortable for the longer rides.
    3. A custom chopper...a bit impractical for the riding world but great if you wanna look badass
    4. An Enduro on/off road bike for when you see that trail off the street that you're curious about.
    5. At least 2 trail dirtbikes for the camping trips

    also my own gas pump in the garage too...why not its a perfect garage right?

    Old Honda and an older Duc.
    For Sunday rides my SS.
    For commuting, maybe a hotrod Monster.
    And a VFR for the freeway.
    Thats about it for now.

    1) Something sporty. For when you just want to rip and tear, comfort be damned;

    2) Something practical. Got to have bags, be reliable, room to put on a passenger or bunjii something from the Home Depot onto;

    3) Dirt bike/small dual purpose;

    4) Distance bike. Sometimes you can combine this with the "something practical". A lot of BMW's and Harley baggers fit this;

    5) An old crock of shit. Something you always wanted, but couldn't have at the time, but now can afford to purchase and fix up. For me that would be an RZ350, bevel drive Duc, late model Norton or XLCR. You can have a bunch of these in various states of restoration.......

    Most of this shamelessly cribbed from an old Peter Egan column.

    Some people are like Slinkies ...
    Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.
