BCSB came about from a joint thought collective between a few members of SBN (www.sportbikes.net). We’ve (the mods and I) have worked hard to bring you a great local content site for you all to enjoy.
You guys are really making this tough though. The culture of this forum has shot into the crapper in the past few months and it is resisting all attempts by admin/moderators to pull it out. It's gotten to the point that I don't even want to come here, so what the hell does that say?
Maybe it's because the time has come that we have just flat run out of things to talk about.
Maybe it’s because we have an influx of ‘the internet youth’ that are used to a ‘global’ message board where you can hide behind your keyboard.
Maybe it's because we are all just assholes with keyboards and a chip on our shoulder.
Regardless of the reason, I am flat out sick and tired of the wise-ass comments and inflammatory crap running around. We have a lot of members on here now, and in order to ‘curb’ the crap we’ll need to crack down on the posts that aren’t going anywhere. This does NOT mean censorship as this site has always (contrary to what some people may want to believe) welcomed opinions from all walks of life. The reality is: we want to maintain quality here. There are only 2 rules on this site: No personal attacks, no racism.
So from now on, if you could all take a minute when you post to make sure that it’s a quality post. Say what you like, do what you will.. Leave all the banter for the ‘Open Forum’ as that is what it is there for. Or come visit chat, another place to shoot the shit. Again, try keeping in mind this site is about ‘sportbikes’.
Some general guidelines:
1. Be nice. Is that so hard? We’re a local site. ‘this is just the internet’ doesn’t fly. Treat everyone with the respect that you’d like to treated with. We’re all civilized people here I think, let’s act like it.
2. Take some ownership. One person cannot dictate the culture of a 1,000 person community. It's up to all of you to THINK before you post. If all you're going to do is make a wise-ass remark, don't bother. The culture we have is what the membership makes of it, and I would bet that the majority now doesn't care for where we are.
3. Help the newbies. I know it gets hard when you see a question for the ten-thousandth time, but frankly I'm tired of seeing everybody say 'help yourself. use search.' Give'em a hand the first time and sooner or later they will get it sorted out. If you really are NOT going to help them, that's OK, but do us all a favor and do not post ANY response.
I’d like to keep the site open to everybody from the 18 year old looking for his/her first bike to the 60 year old looking to re-kindle his youth.
This is your site people just as much as it is mine, and from the recent events that you may or may not be aware of – I’m quite frankly just sick of it. That is all. I'm on the prowl so if your post gets deleted don't whine to me about it.
And to those unhappy with the way things are run here: tough.
Call me what you will, but your all welcome to try on any of my pairs of shoes.
