Aviation news from the Great White North! I'm up here in a mining camp (Peregrine Diamonds Ltd.) for a few weeks and this is some pretty cool news.
The world's largest and most powerfull helicopter, the Russian MI-26 Halo, is currently in Yellowknife! It's going to be shipping stuff up to the diamond mines since the early melt of the ice-roads fucked up a lot of shipping.
This bad boy can lift 20 tonnes (that's nearly as much as an AC-130 Hercules), and costs $13,000USD per HOUR to fly (and that's before the cost of FUEL, says our chopper pilot).
I just hope I get a chance to see it! We're not that far from the 2 mines, but probably just far enough
