So I snagged an Epson CX5400 all-in-one scanner/printer off craigslist for FREE (yeah!). The catch is it doesn't want to print. BUT the scanner works, so at worst I got a free scanner
The printer says that the black ink cartridge is out of ink, but I shake the cartridge and it sounds like there's a fair bit still in there.
I gather there is a chip in the printer cartridge that keeps track of how much ink is left? And that if you manually refill the cartridge the chip needs to be "reset"? Maybe the chip is "confused"?
I don't want to throw a lot of money at this thing just in case it's beyond repair. A new printer itself is only $130 or so. A replacement black ink cartridge will cost around $40 at Staples.
Ideas? Is my understanding of the chip-reset thing correct?
