"I'm a tolerant person"
So that means I tolerate intolerant people? No, I don't tolerate intolerant people. So I'm intolerant. The statement falls flat. It has no truth value. It is neither true nor false. It is completely useless and meaningless.
I just watched the National tonite about countries that are waking up to the idea that tolerance does not work. It's about time this point of view gets some recognition. In the wake of the terrorist attacks on the US and GB, people are getting the idea that they must preserve their culture or lose it. And this means forcing immigrants to integrate or leave.
The Netherlands have seen this already a while ago and they're scared of what can happen. Namely this: the birthrate of the long time, pure-bred citizens is very low. The birthrate of the immigrant communities is more than double the native born population. This means that the immigrant communities will dominate the country in short order. And to preserve the culture of the country the governing authorities have to establish laws that restrict people's cultural freedoms.
The worst case scenario I think would be wars and civil wars not unlike what we see in Serbia and the Middle East.
I know this is a very touchy subject but I wanted to throw it out there and hear what other people think.
I hold a certain worldview that others don't. Please be tolerant
