Maybe Im missing something but to me this makes total and complete sence. Everyone who drives has to drive something, and if they crash it well it doesnt matter what it is or was they will have still crashed it. So why doesnt ICBC insure the person who was at the helm, rather than put the blame on whos evers papers are in the glovebox? Then have a plate fee for the different cars, BUT there should also be some discount or advantage to using a "safer" vehicle.
This also works great for riders. Rather than having to insure a bike, your car, your truck, your .... you get coverage for yourself. Then you get plates for the various needed vehicles. Clean records get further breaks on premiums.
Oh and last time I checked ICBC was a government operated insurer was it not? Isnt the governments income supposted to come from taxes? Why then is ICBC allowed to dick around with us, the tax payers of this province? Why can some asshat raise rates while simotaniously giving millions in bonuses to employees and himself? According to him the employees were doing stellar work or something. Yet he also said rates were raised because they lost money... how the heck does that work? Every other company I know of who reported losses last year, or any other year cut employees, or atleast cut salaries/wages back. Maybe Im too blue collar, but if I screw up something at work, I dont expect to get paid for it. Tho I suppose this does shed some light on how "they" can have such large debts and continually accumulate even larger ones.
