June 05, 2002 - Ice Cube is makin' moves. Hot on the heels of a deal with MGM to produce the "black guy in NASCAR" comedy Race (he won't appear in the film), Cube has hooked up with Warner Bros. to star in the motorcycle racing actioner Torque. According to today's Hollywood Reporter, the production is scheduled to start filming next month in Los Angeles under the watchful eye of newbie director Joseph Kahn.
"The film is described as a "fast-paced adventure set in the world of motorcycle racing." Cube will reportedly play a character named Trey Wallace, leader of the Machine, one of the country's most notorious biker gangs.
Also set to star in the picture are Jay Hernandez (Crazy/Beautiful, Joy Ride, The Rookie), who will play a biker; and Matt Schulze (Blade, Blade II, The Fast and the Furious), who will portray a vicious rider from a gang called the Hellions.
THR says that Warner Bros. initially picked up Torque last summer, after the success of The Fast and the Furious, in the form of a spec script from screenwriter Matt Johnson. The story has since been rewritten by scribes J.P. Donahue and Kevin Polay. Fast and Furious producer Neal H. Moritz is also producing Torque."
