I'm just here for the intelligent conversation.

    California Ride

I'm thinking of taking a 3 day trip down to California to take on HWY 36 which I've heard great things about.

anyone up for a 3-4 day ride over a weekend sometime in early August?

I'm in Portland right now for a track day and all the riders out here are talking about the Northern California roads.

let's set up a good size group. Preferably 4-6 people.

just go there and ride it. you dont need (or want) a "sizable" group on that road... you'll just end up in jail. Watch out for deer and loose gravel... ridden it many a time. Awesome road.. best parts are first 30 miles from I5 west and then the last 40 miles from 101 eastwards... be careful and enjoy... lay low... dont go to jail. BTW watch the stretch 101 and 40 miles eastward.. drecreasing radius hairpins have claimed many a bike including several friends bikes... all extremely experienced riders (30+ years riding) ... road is tight and temps are always above 100'... hot, slow and tired.. bikes go down. take it easy.

HWY 36, 199, 299 plenty of great roads right in the same area, grab a hotel in Redding and use it as your base camp, do 3 or 4 days of loops from there and call it good.

I just got back from a 36, 299, 199 loop a few weeks back, awesome roads, worth every min.

Exactly what a friend and i just did. got back monday night. tons of troopers on the way down and back. very hot right now. 40+ midday. Hwy 36 had no traffic and in good shape but for some loose gravel in corners occasionally. 3 was fun and 299 ok too but lots of RV's. enjoy those roads but be safe, they may never find you if you go off the edge.
