“Breaker One-Nine: The Bear is in the Air”.
Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley Traffic Services, assisted by the RCMP Traffic Helicopter “Air-One” apprehended a reckless motorcyclist on Tuesday July 4th, 2006 at approximately 1300hrs. The rider was first spotted from the air by the RCMP Air-One helicopter traveling east on Highway #1 at the McDermott turn off at a high rate of speed. Fraser Valley Traffic Services patrol vehicles set up a perimeter while Air-One maintained aerial surveillance over the reckless rider. The rider got off highway # 1 near the Cultus Lake Turn off and was passing multiple vehicles over double solid lines, around blind corners, clocked in section at over 160 kmh on the side roads on the service roads paralleling the highway. He was stopped at a road block near the Cultus Lake Bridge before he could get back into the heavy urban traffic of Vedder Road.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the RCMP Helicopter Air-One, the Chilliwack Traffic Services and the Fraser Valley Traffic Services, a reckless motorcycle rider acting irresponsibly was stopped before causing harm to himself or others.
Ryan Dryer a 23 year old Chilliwack resident was apprehended and is facing charges that will include Dangerous Driving, Causing Pursuit, Driving contrary to the restrictions of his driver’s licence and was released at the Chilliwack Detachment, to await Trial in September 2006.
The RCMP Helicopter Air-One has been in operation for several months now and credited for many recovered stolen vehicles, as well as several successful apprehensions of reckless drivers and riders who would have otherwise put the general public and members of the Force at risk in their senseless pursuit of thrill seeking and irresponsible bordering on criminal behavior.
Lets hear it for the “good guys”.
