Apparently the parking by-laws of Vancouver have changed over the last 2 months. In the past motorcycles could get away with parking in those tight little spots not officially parking spots - big enough for a bike but not enough for a car.... I'm sure you know the spots. This has now come to an end, according to the City Parking Law Enforcement officer who ticketed my bike this evening just outside of my work (near Granville and Broadway).
I've been parking there for almost a month now without any sign of this being a problem. A fellow co-worker also parks there regularly. Unfortunately I caught the officer just after he'd issued a ticket, so no chance to argue my case with him. $40 if I pay before Aug something or other and it doubles if I don't. Rediculous!
His reasoning regarding the change? Apparently Vancouver is now implementing additional motorcycle parking around town, so they are cracking down on the not so legal parking that motorcycles and scooters used to get away with. Well I tell ya, I haven't seen any of this type of parking opening up around that area.
Anyway, just wanted to rant and also put the warning out in case any of you like to use these small convenient spots to park your bike.
To dispute or not to dispute.... that is the question... :P
