I realize that I am a newbie rider. I make mistakes as I try to learn how to ride my bike, and hopefully I don't hurt myself or others in the process. I'll give ya that much. In my defense, I am a good driver, no accidents in 15+ years, and usually driving as defensively as I can to avoid the idiots running into my sort-of new and fully paid off car.
Now, in the 3 weeks and roughly 1500kms that I have put on my new bike, after taking a course, buying all the safety gear and a good helmet (as I tend to think my skin is best left the way it is, and my brains are worth it), I didn't realize that I would ever seen so many idiotic stunts pulled around me by both bikers and cagers. Is this what everyone experiences?
I think the final straw was today riding on the upper levels highway heading to Squamish. Still in West Van, doing roughly 80-90km/h waiting for an opening to pass. While in the left lane passing (had of course checked mirrors and blind spot ) and swear to God there was no one there, all of a sudden a bike is right behind me, then passing me in my lane when we are pretty much beside the vehicle I was trying to pass. He slows down enough beside me to give me the "thumbs up" that I have a great bike (it just so happened to match his)! He then took off and disappeared quickly around the next curve. All I had to say was WTF?
I don't get it.
