I've recently been thinking about putting on our own little Monday night race series out at the 440 track. We could hold them every other week. So we could practice one Monday and Race the next.
We could structure it something like this:
-There would be 3 race classes; Beginner, Intermediate and Expert.
-The races could consist of a six bike grid, 3 in front and 3 in the rear.
-Each class would have 2 races; one qualifier and a one final. Depending on rider turn out.
My biggest issue with this is the fact that, if I do all the work I will be unable to race. I'm not sure I'm ready for that trade off. My other issue is the ramps, without some type of terrain change, I don't feel it's worthy of race status.
The other thing would be to try and solicit some type of sponsorship. Then we could make some safety adjustments to the track, like more hay for some of the turns. I would also want to bring in a sanctioning body like the CMRC to help out with race insurance and structure. So, this would all lead to additional costs as well. In the real world it is all still dirt cheap racing. We would be looking at sanctioning fees, race fees, membership fees, and this would all sit on top of the F440 track fees.
Realisticly, I don't think we are ready for it this year yet, we just dont have the numbers.
For now, I am just putting this out there for feed back. So if you guys have thoughts or concerns about this, post up and lets figure it out.
