Surrey RCMP and Air One Track Down Stolen Motorcycles
Date: August 30, 2006
Surrey: On Friday August 25th at approximately 23:45 PM two police officers from the Surrey RCMP assisted by “Air One”, the Lower Mainland Traffic Safety Helicopter, were on patrol targeting aggressive drivers on the King George Highway. Air One alerted the two officers on the ground of a motorcycle traveling at speeds in excess of 100 km/h as it headed southbound from 104 avenue. Surrey RCMP attempted to pull over the motorcycle, but it accelerated to an extreme rate of speed, estimated by Air One's aircrew to be in excess of 220 km/h, and turned westbound onto 96 avenue.
Due to the clear risk to the public and the presence of Air One, police officers on the ground did not pursue the motorcycle. Air One continued to track the motorcycle unbeknownst to the driver to a residence in North Surrey. The aircrew called in the position of the suspect and the motorcycle to the police officers on the ground who attended the scene immediately. Police located and arrested the uncooperative suspect inside the residence. Police also discovered two stolen motorcycles in the garage of this residence. Charges are pending against this individual, but as they have not been laid no name can be released.
Anyone with further information on this incident is asked to call Surrey RCMP at (604) 599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
Hope they get a judge who will actually give this slimebag bike thief some jail time. Maybe he was riding one of our stolen bikes?
