Driver of Stolen Motorcycle lucky to be alive
Burnaby File: 2006-49314
September 16, 2006
On September 16, 2006 at approximately 0045hrs member of the Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services Unit attended to a single vehicle collision involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival at the scene, it was clear that the driver was very lucky to be alive. The driver failed to negotiate a turn and struck the cement barrier on the opposite side of the road. The force of the impact was so severe that the motorcycle was broken in two. Amazingly, the driver was located in the heavy bush on the other side of the cement barriers, still conscious.
The resulting investigation revealed that the motorcycle had been reported stolen on 2006-08-24 out of Vancouver. The licence plate from a different stolen motorcycle was also recovered at the scene.
The driver, a 24 year old male from Surrey, was transported to Royal Columbia Hospital with a number of fractures to his legs and arms. The Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services Unit will be continuing with the investigation and will be forwarding charges against the male in the future for Possession of Stolen Property.
