I realize that there's no police flaming on this board, so I'm going to keep is civil, however I want to rant about a speed trap I witnessed on the Granville Bridge this afternoon.
It's very common to see a speed trap on the Granville Bridge southbound where the bridge splits between Granville Street and the Fir Street exit. The cops park their bikes in the middle of the split, hide behind the barrier and tag people heading towards either exit.
However today, they were standing directly behind the setting sun and at this time of year, the sun is totally blinding. I saw the speed trap as soon as I crested the bridge but as I got closer, they started pulling in cars, creating total chaos which looked like nothing more than black shadows even with my sunglasses and blinder (I was in my cage). If some cop tried to step out in front of me at any speed with the sun directly behind him like that, I'd worry about hitting him. Even the daftest pedestrian trying to cross the street would realize that he's invisible to cars with the sun behind him like that.
Oh yeah, and the bloody cop was smoking a cigarette while he was pulling over cars!
The funny thing was that as I was heading back over the Granville bridge heading northbound 20 minutes later, there was another speed trap at the other end of the bridge, right in front of the Cecil.
Anyhow, I didn't get a ticket heading either direction. Whew.
Okay, rant over, carry on.
