Inside the Ducati 1098
By: Sarah Carnell
Following our exclusive unveiling of the new Ducati 1098 yesterday we can now bring you more information on this highly anticipated superbike.
Ducati is hoping this new machine will bring it success both on the track and in the showroom. It uses some of the best aspects from other models, including the 916 and 998, combined with new technology.
This bike carries all the trademark styling cues of the 916 such as the twin headlights and a pair of simple oval end cans exiting under the seat.
But among the modern features are better aerodynamics, while its performance far outweighs that of its predecessors. There is a powerful 1099cc engine with new cylinders and heads, creating a massive 160bhp even in its basic form.
Ducati has tested the bike against its main competitors and claims the 1098 is faster around a track and can even out-drag the Suzuki GSX-R1000 in a straight line .
The official launch will be at the Milan show next week and it should be available in showrooms around Christmas.
