Bike hit in the parking lot questions

    Hey guys,
I went halfway to whistler i think yesterday...... squamish? where they had mcdonalds and save on food, etc. I parked at save on foods to buy water :P and when i walked out..... this camry was reversing..... and it reversed into my parking space.... his butt hit my butt..... and down i went on the right side.... BAM!, then he forwarded, maybe about to run away? who knows, me and my friends stepped in front of his view.... and he got out, apologized, said "he didn't see the bike". either he was going to park in MY ALREADY PARKED SPACE, or just felt like bumping into bikes.

Damage that i could see (i'm noob)
    honda cbr 600 rr
right turn signal light, ripped off from the carbon.... so whole front fairings have to be brand new?
    right side mirror scratch
    right handle bar scratch
and the usual scratchings on the right side of the bike

He said he didn't wanted the insurance thing to kick in...... so we did it personally. i will get the bike to fix, and i send him the invoice by mail and he pays me later. i got his name, address, number, driver's license number

he is from toronto and visiting whistler i guess.... with a rented car from budget rentals.

Could i know how much it will cost me? and is my way of doing safe? like will he just run away and stuff..... what's the best option for me that is safe. i did take photos, with him writing some stuff on my seat.... and the damages

plz help, he is leaving today from bc ><

    thx

oh and another tip i learned from this which i would like to share, when parking in actual parking lots...... do not park all the way inside..... and park sideways..... basically take up the whole space where cagers's rear usually is when they park

I doubt it for all you know the guy could of been lying to you. I hope you got the plate ## off the rental..

ICBC, and don't let him talk you into anything else. He's out of town, and will just ignore you if you don't file an accident claim right away. ICBC has a 24 hour claim phone number. Phone it immediately!!!!!!

yes dude,,call ICBC right away...he can always deny it when he's out of town...never trust anyone,,who knows if he gave you the right info(add,phone)..it'll be easier to let ICBC deal with it than you dealing with this guy when he's trying to ignore you......

I will echo everyone else, go through ICBC he will have the option of paying them out and then it never will be seen on his record, but whatever you do, do NOT do it privately!!!!

You are likely looking at 1000.00 plus for repairs and he will freak when he sees the bill. I agree with everyone else here and call ICBC right now.

    yep - call the Corp.

When my bike was knocked over last year when it was legally parked, damage was around $5,000 +/- ... mostly to replace plastics. I imagine if you call him and tell him you have an invoice for $5,000 (or whatever) he will deny everything and you may be left holding the bag.

    Call ICBC today!

Yes you can settle the claim privately, with ICBC collecting directly from him. Just tell ICBC that he wants to pay privately, and ask them how to proceed.
If he pays ICBC directly instead of his insurance co., his insurance isn't affected, and you don't have the hassle of trying to collect.

ICBC has way more power than you to collect... you pay them to act as your agent - so cover your ass by making THEM work for it.

They'll get their money.......they always do
