I just read this quote on the Cycle World website from columnist David Edwards. We Kawie owners need all the help we can get.

Best Forgotten Four: Kawasaki ZX-9R. Yes, Team K does have an Open-class repli-racer; no, it's not the equal of the Honda 929, Yamaha R1 or (speak its name in hushed tones) the Almighty GSX-R1000 on the track. Do a lotta track work, do ya? Out on the street, the Niner is supremely stable at speed (inch-longer wheelbases tend to calm things down nicely), sport-touring comfortable and, oh yes, dispatches with the quarter-mile in a mere 10.3 seconds and manages 170 mph at top whack. The unsung Master Blaster.

Yes the 9'er has become the forgotten child. But that's helped to hold the prices down to 600 levels. A factor that pleased me and so I'm willing to let the magazines play up the "obsolete" opinion as long as I can get a bike this good for these prices.

And it IS the king of the sport tourers. (Spagetti Mexican accent on) We don't need no steeenkin' Veefer's. :D

BTW. I'm not going looking for it now but in '99 one year after the 9R was dethroned by the R1 after it's 3 month kinghood one of the mags was doing an article about the last year left over bikes. All the other three had some problem or other to watch for when shopping for used bikes. But when they talked about the 9R it went something like this;

"It's a Kawasaki. If you don't drive it into a tree it'll never break".

:D

All hail the 9R - THE MASTER BLASTER
:flashy :flashy :flashy :flashy

the 2002 9R is even better, the 9R makes as much if not more power (929) than the other liter class bikes despite being 100cc down...the same goes for the ZX12R...makes way more power that the Hayabusa yet it's 100+cc down....and then when you factor in the BIG K's ram air........eiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiyyyyyyyyyyyaaaaaaa

forget about being cheaper...it's even more economical when you consider the 9R has the steering dampner built in and you won't be paying a a back specialist any $$$ after doing the loop...:D

not to mention there are now 20 Kawasakis on the site....preety much close to double it's nearest competitor....

ok, I have calmed down now.....thanks folks, alright alright the show's over go home....

THE 2002 ZX-9R, VOTED #1 BY GERMAN PRESS

In the February issue of MOTORRAD (Germany’s authoritative voice on Motorcycles), The 2002 ZX-9R was declared the best sportbike in the 1000 cc class. Compared to the likes of the 2002 GSX-R, and Fireblade, the Kawasaki came out with the highest points and won the shoot-out.

"The Kawasaki has made a spectacular comeback in the category. Already saluted as the best road sport bike, The ZX-9R succeeds brilliantly in the 2002 comparison." Further comments reflect upon the ZX-9Rs excellent motor and incredible braking. The German press agreed that the 2002 ZX-9R will be something to fear on the racetrack.

What does all this mean? The ZX-9R simply earned the most points in the following categories: Acceleration/Horse Power/ Shifting/ Handling/Transmission/Braking/Ergonomics/Wind Protection/Comfort…Excitement!

ok you green people, time to get down off your soapboxes :laughing

2002 zx9r seems to be heavy influenced by suzuki in the merger with them, it got a seat cowl, and this so call steering damper.... next up, they will bolt up a gixxer1000 engine into the thing :laughing :laughing

From what I've read Kawi and Suzuki's "merger" only influences stuff like distributorship and garden variety products. I don't think it influences the R&D on Motorcycles. Mind you I'm working off of memory here and on print information, (which can't be trusted implicitly).

Regardless, as far as I'm concerned, all bikes from the big 4 manufacturers are great bikes. You just prefer one over the other based upon certain attributes Suzuki/Yamaha - racing & style; Honda/Kawasaki - comfort and reliability

sorry to break your heart sweety but the merger doesn't apply to the main sportbikes and cruiser lines, only to the dirt bike, mules, generators etc.....you Gixxers' aren't getting any new trannies....

and ZX9Rs don't come stock with steering dampners....heck Scotts doesn't even bother making them for most Kawis....

i'm just pullin your chain dude :) :laughing

why would I want a kawi tranny if my gixxer tranny is just perfect (diss the 2000 750 tranny all you want, I dont have no 2000 750 ) :) :) :D

Gixxer trannies are bullitproof, just as much as any Kawi... sure the 2000 had some issues, but every other year can take some serious abuse! trust me I know from experiance...

Now you wanna talk notchy trannies go ride an r6...

Kawi and suzuki riders are all brothers, why arent we knocking hondas lawnmower bikes and yamahas musical instrument two wheelers...? J/K

:laughing :laughing :laughing
