I've spent a lot of time in the saddle and behind the wheel this last year, throughout 10 states and nowhere, and I mean NOWHERE is there a problem with drivers refusing to use their turn indicators like there is in Vancouver.
It's bothered me for a while now, but since I returned from traveling through a variety of other urban areas recently, I've realized that it's a downright epidemic in the GVRD.
It's like the turn indicator lever in people's cars is covered with flesh eating acid coated razor blades.
I indicate all of my turns and lane changes, even when there's not another motorist or pedestrian in sight. It's not inconvenient and it just comes as a natural, physical reflex while driving - I don't even realize I'm doing it.
Why, oh why is it such a pain in the ass for drivers, specifically GVRD drivers to indicate their intentions?
