2007 r1 at daytona in surrey

they have a blue one at daytona ,didnt do much for me ,basically an r6 body on an r1 with a dif tail ,and giant front scoops that look like an afterthought

a few things did impress me thou ,the new swingarm is hot ,very WSB at least on one side ,the windscreen had NO screws repeat NO screws to attach it ,it is a snap fit held on by the mirrors,,that was very cool.It comes stock with a double bubble type windscreen and here is the best part

COMES STOCK WITH PILOT POWERS ! finally some manufact with some sense.

its ok ,not a GRAB your attention bike like i think it should have been ,Like how the 06 r6 was ,that is a very nice looking bike with a departure from most others.

oh and anyone thinking of swapping over to the 6 piston calipers ,thats a NO GO ,they are 130mm spacing ,be pretty hard to get an aftermarket caliper other than the nissin billet at 5gs a set .

im sure everyone has seen it already but here it is anyway .

Looks like a 180/55 on the rear. Not a 190!

Gonna have to see it for myself. I'm not as chubbed up a I want to be. I was really hoping Yamaha was going to really up the ante with this year's model. Still looks great but not as innovative as I had hoped.

Snap-on windscreen is a nice touch. Exposing the mufflers a bit is ehhhh OK. Swingarm, as borderline points out, is beefier looking. Although I like the elegance of the 04-06 swingarm. Rearsets are down-designed. Not sure if they are adjustable or not but they look shittier (remember this is a poseur's bike people)

My guess is most of the bike's real improvements are not cosmetic but under the hood with the self-adjusting velocity stacks being the big one. They made some frame changes too but not sure how that is going to play out in the real world.

Anyone who rode an R1 with a 190 on the rear and hops on this bike for a test ride is gonna think they died and gone to heaven. The tire change alone improves the ride characteristics enormously.

I was very disappointed that the rain did not clear for me to take it in its maiden voyage..

i like it but, not REALLY impressed. ycct (throttle), ycci (intake), 4 valve motor(new for Yamaha), new swing arm, 6 piston calipers, just to name a few. i think that stuff is kool! OH...and as my buddy borderline said...PILOT POWERS! and it is a 190.
this is the VERY first one in the lower mainland to be released. not expected till feb of so. but it is there for you all to enjoy for a few dayz until the new owner comes and gets it.
here is a link to the new specs......

if it dried out at all today i'll ask him later he owns a 04 r1 with a 190 ,and he most likely took this one out for a test ride today .

Yeah, there was an exhaustive thread on the 07 R1 when it was first previewed this fall. We know all the specs. But you know, being an owner of an 04 R1 that the mid-range sucked monkey nuts (I have an 04 R1 as well) but the knarly engine even with its crapped out mid-range makes the bike interesting and inviting to ride even after a few years of carvin up the twisties. Can't say that about many inline 4 sportbikes (I am sure people will protest that comment... whatev)

I didn't mention the valving or the brakes cuz the engine was good and needed a midrange fix. If Yamaha turns the engine into a predictable Honda engine then they have lost the essence of the R1 in terms of its powerplant. We will only see once the thing is saddled by real people and not people shilling for Yamaha. The brakes are a nice add on but really the brakes on the 04 R1 are very good. Six piston brakes are good in theory (like a lot of new things on this bike and other sportbikes) but will it really improve the bike in its handling or feel as a STREETBIKE***. Let's face it, the fancy brakes are great for two things: bragging rights and the track. First point fair enough but second point, you gotta have rocks in your head to be taking a brand new R1 onto the track. Five years hence maybe once the bike isn't worth so much.

Realistically Yamaha (and all the other manufacturers) have to increase the bike's potential in every way they can within the budget restraints in order to have the best bikes in order to win Superbike races but the reality is from an R1 street riders' perspective the only thing broken with the 04 to 06 R1 is the midrange and the ever so shitty 190 tire on the back but that is easily swapped out.

    - - -

*** Qualification: I haven't been on a bike with six piston brakes so I may be eating crow on this one but I doubt it.

I would agree with the motor, but the 4 valve should be good, ill see when/if it dries out sometime soon. as for the brakes agreed! NO street rider will EVER push any litre bike to its limit on the street, and even at most tracks around here!
i can see Yamaha making a good push in super bike this year with the new platform.
as for the 04 R1, all you have to do is a few mods and the mid range is WAY better than stock!
    Nice Try NO-GOAL-OFF!
