Well I can finally say I am a proud owner of my Toyota Tacoma...but it was not without a lot of headaches. I have always been a toyota fan since before I even had a drivers license. They have just always worked, and worked well. last last year after getting a dual prupose, adn a drtbike for my wife, I thought it would be a good time to sell my little Toyota Tercel (which has been a kickass little car), and join the ranks of the truck owners club. I heard from more than one person that once you own a truck, you'll never want another car again. So after lots of reasearch on Tacomas, I found out that there all really expensive no matter waht year they are. By chance I stopped by a family friends auto brokerage to find a 2000 Tacoma reg cab 4x4 on his lot for a lot of money. It was just what I was looking for, but waaaaay outta my budget. being a family friend, he offered it to me for around eight thousand less than ANY dealor or broker would sell it for. Hoe w could I refuse right? after having the the body and interior looked over by Roger who gave me the ok that it was in great shape body wise, and a heads up that the check engine light would be looked after by my family friend, i signeds thae papers....the truck was mine that was back in April of 06. Since then the motor has pretty much rebuilt....cam shaft, gaskets, oil sensor, oil pump, timing belt, main brearings, crank and cam bearings, spark plugs, plug wires, coil packs...and yes the list goes on. The truck has been in the shop my family friend uses for repairs over 20 times, and several thousand dollars (all of which was paid by him not me). However the main problem with the truck was still present. The truck Idled really rough, and all over the RPM map, and the truck was cutting out with little power all the time. The shop had given up , and just said that it must be normal for these trucks to run like shit (actual words said by mechanic). So Fuck it, I took to L&S Toy Shop in PoCo, whom I have dealt with many times in the past for help and advice. The 2 owners there were former Toyota Techs, and know everything about Toyotas, pretty much any auto make out there. within 2 hours of bringing my truck to them they phoned me back to let my know the problems with my truck. Thats compaired to 20 plus visits to the other shop, and coutless hours of waisting my time, and my family friends money. The final reapirs done to make my truck run perfect was a knock sensor, valve shims ( that were the completly wrong size!) idle control module, and a properly adjusted idle screw (that had been adjusted and broken off by the other shop to try and bring up the idle and make it not idle as rough). I couldn't be happierto finally drive the truck I thought I was buying. I runs awesome, an cant wait to enjoy several years of trouble free Toyota driving
The point of this rant was to say that I wish I could have taken my truck to my trusted shop from the begining so I would not have been so frustrated for the past 9 months! It also would have prevented my growing anger and frustrations with Toyota ( which was really not A toyota problem at all, but a previous idiot moron owner). So, just to be clear to all my friends, and strangers that I have told to definitly consider buying a Toyota....I still mean it. And to anyone else with problems with thier vehicles, motorcycles etc...stick with a shop you know and trust and avoid the hassle.
Now I think I will throw the bikes in the back and head out dirtbiking. or maybe a little 4x4 offroad fun. Or maybe I will just be happy that My Toyota runs great now
Did anyone actually read this if so thanks for humouring me.
