So, last night (Jan.26th) I was taking my dog to the park (Cleveland Dam) in North Vancouver around 7 PM when we came upon a couple (early to mid 20's) and their dog on the pathway. The owner (who claims his name was Brandon) had a hold of his dog between his legs with a grasp on its neck. My dog (a 9 mo. old yellow lab) is extremely friendly by nature, and still being a puppy, wanted to say hello. My dog cautiously approached this dog, they sniffed noses for about 2 seconds, when all of a sudden, the other dog snapped and bit down on my dogs ear. My dog yelped and pulled to get away from this attacking dog, which was being held back by its owner. The result of this attack is that my dog now has a 1" x 0.5" chunk missing from the end of his ear, which won't ever grow back.
Brandon (the owner of the attacking dog) was very apologetic and immediately offered to pay for any vet bills as a result of his dog's actions, which was reassuring. I added his number to my cell phone and then immediately bundled up my dog into the back of the car and proceeded to take him to the vet. The vet diagnosed the injury and advised that surgery was necessary to stop the bleeding and to clean up the wound so it would heal properly. I pick up my dog this morning and he has a bandage wrapped around his head and a plastic cone on. The vet tells me that he will need to come back to have the bandage removed (in 3 days) and then again to get the stitches removed (in 10 days). In the meantime, he's not allowed to exercise too vigorously (no playing) and is on medications. Not too fun considering he's still a puppy.
I finally get my dog home and he starts to rest, so I decide to call Brandon to let him know the outcome of his dog's actions. Ring ... ring ... ring. Some guy answers, I ask from Brandon, and am told I have a wrong number!! Just great! This guy's dog attacks and injures my dog, he offers to be responsible for the financial costs, and instead leaves me with a bogus number. F***in irresponsible dog owners!!
So, I'm now looking for a caucasian guy in his early to mid twenties, about 6' tall, slim build, with a full size white dog with black patches. The dog was a mix that looked to have some pit or rotti in it, and the owner claimed it came from the SPCA. The guy drives a white Ford, full size (F150?), crew cab (4 door), 4x4, pickup truck.
