Okay I have been handed an extremely difficult assignment by the International Affairs Student Union at SFU. I am supposed to go represent the IASU at a debate at UBC on a topic I disagree with. The topic is Should Canada disengage from military commitments and focus on domestic affairs and foreign aid.
I have been a serving member of Canadian Armed Forces reserves since I was 17. I am always the guy debating the hippy chicks about war and politics. I now have to completely invert my personal beliefs so that I can give a strong argument. The kicker is that I have until this Tuesday to re-calibrate all my thinking.
My research so far has turned up the same thing over and over again. Harper is Bush’s cousin he is just helping expand the American imperialist machine blah blah blah…all bullshit with no facts.
So far I don’t even have a platform on which I can adequately fight this battle. I need facts and citation…I am not a hippy chick I will not walk into this debate with principals based on love, Anti-Americanism and pixy dust
If any one has anything like that I would be eternally grateful.
