"FS: 15.4" HP ZE4200 1.8 GHZ 512mb Ram PC Laptop
I have for sale a HP ZE4200 laptop. I paid $1300 early last year.
It runs Windows XP Professional, has no dead pixels, and is in excellent shape. It has in Altec Lansing stereo speakers, and has iTunes so you can run your iPod on it. It has no virus's, because it has Norton Anti Virus.
Price is $499 OBO, or I'll also trade for a Macbook plus ill put in some cash on top."
He sold it to me for $400 flat + $15 shipping from parksville which he told me was half of the shipping cost. He was to cover the other half. I get the package and the total postage is $14.30. I asked him about this and he said the box was an additional $6.00. Still doesn't add up and the box has very obviously been re-used as my address is written in felt overtop of an old address. This is the first and very minor issue.
I was talking to him about it on MSN and he seemed very friendly and helpful with any questions about it that I had although he wasn't too computer-literate. He sent me short videos of the computer booting and pictures of small knicks and scratches. I did find out before I bought it that it was actually a 1.6ghz with only 196mb of ram. I accepted this and sent a money order. I get it a few days after payment and discover that it DOES have viruses (6 of them) and Norton is not activated. The battery lasts 19 minutes from being fully charged to computer shutdown while running no programs whatsoever (just idling on the desktop). The battery charger is super sensitive - I have to push the plug in just the right way and very gently release it to keep the connection. he did mention this beforehand sort of
"but the charger. Sometimes you have to stretch the cable to make it charge. usually not a problem, and its real easy to fix(it has a green light on the charger that indicates its on)"
Usually not a problem? Everytime you plug the thing in, you gotta mess with it to get the connection.
The right mouse click button needs to be pressed firmly for a good 2 seconds for it to work and the CD/DVD drive has an issue where it will sometimes not close. Oh, and the hard drive is only 20gb - he said it was 40gb.
Am I being a dick as the buyer? Is it unreasonable for me to ask for a refund in this situation? This is far from what I would call being in "excellent shape"
When I asked him about this, he said that he told me about the battery life and the mouse button. I checked the entire MSN conversation history, he did not. He now says that he didn't tell me, but that I didn't ask. This is true. I would expect a laptop in excellent shape to have a battery that lasted a little longer than 19 minutes.
Keep in mind that I have used this laptop for about 5-6 hours. There may be other surprises waiting for me.
