1. ## Help a lazy bastard (math)

Hey, so... I'm the lazy bastard in need of help. Im so tired I cant figure this out.

I'm trying to figure out if its cheaper to fly or drive somewhere. My time is worth \$0.00 / hr by the way.

It's 1,226 kms from my house to my destination. All highway obviously. My car gets around 35MPG on the freeway. If gas stays around \$1.04/L, then how much will my trip cost?

Best I can come up with is \$86 bucks one way, but that's seems incredibly low. It's a 50L tank by the way.

Thanks anyone who cares to bother answering this

2. Fly....keep an eye out for discounts with airlines

3. km/liter? ass lol

4. yep I have 86 bucks as well rounded up to the nearest dollar. But I also have 4 beer in me....

2 tanks of gas?

5. 35 MPG = 14.88 km/L

1,226 KM / 14.88 km/L = 82.39L

82.39L * 1.04 \$/L = ~ \$86.

You were right in your initial calculations.

The only problem is, to keep MPG at 35, you'd have to keep to the most efficient high way speed: 90 kph. At that speed it will take you just over 13 hours to get to your destination. You'd have to take into account lunch stop(s), washroom breaks, and so on. That will put you in over 14 hours of driving. Just bloody fly there.

PS
adam, try Holsten. After my 5th one ( at 500ml/can) i can still do math. Must make me SMRT or something.

6. hitch hike?

7. Using round numbers, cars use somewhere between 6 and 8 L of gas per 100km. You're going about 1200km, so 12 x 6 = 72 or 12 x 8 = 96. With gas around \$1/L, that's between \$72 and \$96, so \$86 sounds about right.
