    Icon and Racing?

Does anyone or has anyone used Icon helmets for racing? I'm guessing no as I do not recall seing them ever but I'm relatively new around here. And if not, why not? They meet the standards, do they not? I know they are marketed as "street" helmets and that's their niche but I'm curious as I may try my hand at racing and have to be choosy with my gear purchases. I use KBC now and will probably go with HJC or Icon at the end of this season.

The quality and fit of the helmet you choose to place on your head should not differ if you ride on the street or race on the track. Just find a helmet that is a correct fit for your head. If you like the Icon product, then buy it and use it with confidence, afterall it does meet the same standards as the other brands that you have mentioned.

Just don't fall for the "how much is your head worth" comment.

icon is just a rebadged HJC if I remember correctly.
Some people are like Slinkies ...
Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

There was a thread on the WERA board that showed who passed and who failed DOT. The new Arai Profile failed.....

There was an Icon that failed too.

i crashed so hard in my hjc that all the paint came off the front of it, and i didn't even know i'd had a head impact until i looked at the helmet the next day when i was out of the hospital, so i'd say a snell approved hjc isn't as horrible as many people say it is...

Oh oh, that's no good, I have the Arai Profile.....says DOT and SNELL approved.....hmmm. Recommended from Carter Honda since it fit the best out of all the helmets there.

As long as the helmets say DOT and/or SNELL approved, should be good for the road/track??

    Thanks for the info.

Actually I heard that while HJC does manufacture Icon helmets, they're original Icon designs.

I'm not putting down HJC, just thought it was bizarre that Loudon at least temporarily banned 'em. I'll be racing in a AC-11.

I don't think Icon is related to HJC, I think it's a Part Unlimited brand.

Thanks for all the info! Still in debate and now leaning toward Shark (if they fit right - will know soon).
