ok, so im halfway though my project bike, a 1990 kawi zx6-d, which i bought of a buddy of mine for almost nothing. it didnt run at the time, and according to him it stopped running while he was cruising at part throttle over the alex fraser. ANYWAYS, after tackling a bunch of other stuff, im finally getting to the engine.
did a leakdown test today, and found that i have something like 14 bent valves. timing still lines up fine, so the timing chain couldnt have skipped a tooth. chances are he dropped a gear accedentally at full throttle, or hit a false neutral or something, and it revved up past 16k and had severe valve float.
i've been told the intake valves are like 60 bucks a piece, which is almost 500 bucks just for the intake side of things, so thats kind of out of the question.
i have found a used head on ebay, that claims to be for a 93-02 zx6d. did the zx6d stay in production that long? the head looks IDENTICAL to my head from the pictures, but i was under the impression that this generation of zx6 ended in 93. is it possible that if the head is different, the heads would share the same valves? or is there any other more redily available kawasaki heads that share the same valves?
if anyone knows anything about these heads, or has any suggestions where to find cheaper valves or a used head locally, that would be great.
thanks in advance
