i was offered the keys to the new honda by my friends at CARTER HONDA in coquitlam last week, but with all the rain i wasn't allowed to ride it. This week was abit different in the weather, so i called Don and Jim at CARTER, and i picked tuesday as the day i'd be getting my ride on.
As we arrived at Suite 11, 1300 Woolridge Street, i noticed it was a perfect day to go for a ride. The sun was out with just a few clouds in the sky. We pulled into the parking lot of CARTER HONDA, and there it was.....a red, black and silver shinny new 07' CBR 600 RR. As usual, the boys had the bike washed and a full tank of gas waiting for me to stea..err i mean..take it for a ride.....
As the key was thrown in my hand all i could think was that they would never see me again....EVER!!, as i came too, i saw Don looking at me and saying to be back in a couple of hours...damn it!!
I threw my leg over the bike and u notice right away this isn't the first 03' RR, or the revised 05'. This is a whole different bike. As i turned the key and fired it up, it sent a shiver up my spine! The look was different and by the sound, i know the ride was going to be different. The dash was very nice and easy to read and the cockpit was nicely done and very clean with no wires or anything showing, i'd hate to say it, but i'm going to anyway...it almost looked like cockpit of a honda car, but with handle bars!
With only 3 kms on the odometer and a fresh set of tires, my only real option was to hit the freeway and open all gears and heat up them rubbers so i can lean a little on the way back. As i pulled outta CARTER HONDA, and got on the freeway heading north, i noticed this bike had more power in the bottom end..alot more...the bike was comfortable, nice seat, good handle bar position, very friendly to be on. As i approached 176st exit i thought umm..., na lets go farther, so i gave it the berries and let me tell u this bike moves! and i know your going to say it, every bike moves, but not like this. It did it with class and authority! it was so smooth that when i looked down i was in the 200+ range and not even knowning it! that's how smooth this bike is.
I pulled into Langley to go see a good friend of mine so he could tell me his thoughts on the bike. He said if he hadn't picked up last years 1000RR, he would of got this one without even a blink!!
As i got back on the freeway heading north, i started to throw the bike around, ( as u may be aware, this year they added the HESD from the 1000 to the 600) trying to scrub out the tires, i noticed the steering was alot sharper and crisp, and when u got into the higher gears u could really feel the HESD working for u.
After about 45 minutes on the freeway i started to head back. This time i was going to hit some nice twistys and see how this lion really handle on its side. I leaned her over a couple of times in the spots that i like to call home and noticed she very comfortable to lean. Now with brand new tires i wasn't going to put my knee down, but the bike puts that thought in the bike of your mind...
I pulled into CARTER HONDA after riding this beauty and the beast all in one package, i couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear. This bike was the nicest bike i've ridden. Now that being said, my first bike was an 04' RR, and with almost 80,000 kms before it got written off after almost 2 and ahalf years under my butt, i must have test ridden a bunch of bike thanks to CARTER HONDA, and a few other places, my sister owns a 06' gxsr that i rode most of last season and we've managed to tally almost 40,000 kms in 8 months. I'm definately no expert in critiquing motorcycles, but i know what puts a smile on my face, and what feels good under my ass,
If your looking for a bike this season, weither your a new rider or a seasoned one, it's well worth looking at this bike. Step down to CARTER HONDA and talk to one of the helpful and handy salesmen and i'm quite sure they can set up a test ride for u so u can see for yourself what a great motorcycle this is!! I'd like to take this time and thank all the people at CARTER for giving me the opportunity to ride this bike. And to Don, the blue and silver one is mine in june!!!
