I just had the reasons I avoid Vancouver driving reaffirmed yesterday.
A woman who was on her cellphone at the time, cut me off and then slammed on her brakes as the light we were approaching was red. I had to do a panic stop and as fate would have it, I had just installed new brake pads in my truck a week ago, along with new tires. I stopped in time and also managed to lay on the horn. Next intersection, I pull up beside this woman who is still on her phone, and I just look over at here. I said nothing, no hand gestures or fingers, just looked. She gives me the finger and mouths "Fuck Off"!
I did nothing, but it really irks me that the way the media portrays road rage, is that the person who gets angry is always at fault. Some one who does what this woman did yesterday, imo deserves to have at least a talking too if not a baseball bat across the hood of her car. If I had been on the bike, I could've easily been laying on the road and I have no doubt that this bitch would've kept on going.
Scenario 2. Side street around Willingdon and Hastings area. I saw a woman blow a blatant stop sign and then come to a stop in the middle of the intersection while a car who had the right of way, laid on the horn and stopped. The stop sign runner then started to honk her horn. WHY?
This is why I rarely ride in Vancouver any more. The worst drivers in Canada. And the most ignorant too.
