Okay so here is the deal. For the last two month's i've set my sights on buying a bike. My brother has riden for years and was exceptionally good on a bike - both riding and stunts. My dads had lots of bikes and now at 23 I think it's time i follow suit. (I've had dirt bikes as a kid, but nothing serious).
I got my bike today. After 2 months of looking (and really, hoping) to find something a bit smaller than a 600 (was trying to find a 250 or 500, but im in Victoria and there is absolutely nothing to be found on this island).
I found a i think two, but they were too expensive. I only had $3,500.
So, after 2 months of looking all the time, yesterday I went to take a look at a 1997 GSX-R 600 for $4,000. The price was right-ish. My brother told me not to get anything bigger than a 600 and said of course if possible to get something smaller. But im tired of waiting with no results. The bike is written off by ICBC and was rebuilt and re-cirtified. It runs awesome, everything is obviously in tip-top shape again. My step dad has 2 V-Rod's and also knows a LOT about bikes. He came with me, took it for a test drive, talked the guys ear off and told me it was a good deal.
I baught it. Paid $3,300 for a 97' GSX-R 600.
So just a few things.
a.) being a re-built is that a big downside? Was I stupid to do this? (It has been re-certified). (Both my brother and stepdad said it was a good idea and a very good deal).
b.) I have read the posts here about a 600 being a lot of bike. I understand the points you make against them, and have no intention whatsoever to go on the malahat anytime soon or rush hour traffic or doing wheelies or endos.
c.) Im a small guy (5'10 150 LBS). If there are any pointers you can give me for this bike obviously I would greatly appreciate it. (Is there a big difference riding as a 200lb'er or a 150lb'er?
Any input I can get out of this I would appreciate.
