Vancouver, BC, June 11, 2007: Dozens of motorcycle racers and 40 truck loads of dirt will mix at Tradex, Abbotsford for the 2007 Vancouver Supermoto Race Series, the first ever supermoto event of its kind in Western Canada, presented by BCRPMA (BC Riders Promoting Motorsports Association).
Round one: Saturday, June 16, Tradex, Abbotsford
Round two: Sunday, July 8, Tradex, Abbotsford
Round three: Saturday, July 28, Tradex, Abbotsford
Round four: Saturday, September 1, Tradex, Abbotsford
Round five: Sunday, September 2, Tradex, Abbotsford
Supermoto racing combines dirt, flat track and road racing in one exciting spectator sport. Tracks are typically 70% asphalt and 30% dirt with motocross-style jumps. Racers ride a motorcycle that’s a cross between a dirt bike and a street bike.
Wildly popular in Europe, the sport has developed a fanatic following in North America. In Vancouver, the growing sport is being promoted by a group of dedicated enthusiasts.
“Supermoto is the evolution of motorcycling, and it is about to explode in Vancouver,” said
Mark Hrehorsky, founder of Vancouver Supermoto Ltd., Vancouver’s first and only supermoto specialty shop. “The sport brings the best of dirt riding and road racing together in one high performance machine. For racers and spectators, you just can’t find a more thrilling racing experience.”
The action starts with round one on June 16, but racers and event organizers are looking forward to round two on July 8, western Canada’s only qualifier for the NASMOTO Duel at the Docks in Long Beach, California. Widely considered the biggest supermoto event in North America, the top ten riders from round two in Vancouver will qualify for the invitation-only race.
“Hosting the qualifier for Duel at the Docks is an enormous draw for our series, and it’s going to attract racers from all over the Pacific Northwest,” said Gaston Morrison, race promoter and president, BCRPMA. “This is a tremendous opportunity for local racers to compete against some of the world’s best and kick start supermoto here in British Columbia.”
Racers can register for the 2007 Vancouver Supermoto Race Series by becoming a member of BCRPMA. An entry form is available www.UnitedRPM.com or at Vancouver Supermoto Ltd.,
858 Powell Street, Vancouver.
Parking and admission for spectators is $5. Racers practice at 9:30 am, and racing starts at 12:30 pm.
