I just picked up a radar detector. I researched here on BCSB and on various other sites and came to the conclusion that it would have to be either the passport x50 or the valentine v1. I decided to go with the x50 since it was significantly less expensive and i got a killer deal on it.
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone out there has tips for mounting/modding it for motorcycle use? I'm thinking it'd have to be on the front windshield for lidar detection.
As for powering this baby up (since it comes with a 12VDC car cigarette adapter), I'd have to make some modifications somehow for a motorcycle. I have a pretty decent electrical background and am confident in building something that works, but if there is something on the market (usually these things are cheaper if they're manufactured), I'd want to buy one rather than make one.
I'm thinking along the lines of a few NiMH batteries in series or parallel to achieve around 12-14 VDC that can be plugged into one of two things. Of course, I'd want a substantial amount of battery life which is the reason for NiMH. The first would be a wall adapter for charging, and the second would be into something like a cigarette lighter holder.
If there is anyone who has any information or tips, please tell me.
The reason I don't want to hardwire it to my bike is because I want this thing to be modular. I should be able to use it anytime, even for my car.
Any help would be appreciated.
