I was riding with a pack up the S2S and I noticed a helicopter hovering around just before we got to the 4-lane section near Lion's Bay. I slow myself and the guy behind me down (only one guy was riding behind me). Further down the road, we pass the rest of the pack (they pulled over for some reason). Not 5 minutes later, a cop pulls a U-turn in front of me and pulls me over, then he waits for the pack that pulled over earlier and drags them in too. The cops start handing out excessive speeding tickets to everyone, and when I argued that I was not speeding, he claimed that he had to issue the ticket because the helicopter said I was speeding. Does anyone know anything about the legality of using helicopters to "pace" a bike on the ground? Don't factors like wind speed and angle of observation affect that kind of stuff?
