my advice...test ride it HARD and make sure it doesn't have a transmission problem...then offer the seller $1000.00...then look at the wicked face he makes and get ready to block.

How accurate would you describe this to be:

    July 4, 2007
    1999 Yamaha YZF-R6
    4-Cylinder
    4-Stroke
    600cc
    Suggested Retail Value
    $4260
The Kelley Blue Book Suggested Retail Value is representative of dealers' asking prices and is the starting point for negotiation between a consumer and a dealer. This Suggested Retail Value assumes that the unit has been fully reconditioned and is in excellent condition. Mileage/condition and additional equipment may have a substantial impact on the value shown above. This value also takes into account the dealers' profit, costs for advertising, sales commissions and other costs of doing business. The final sale price will likely be less depending on the unit's actual condition, popularity, type of warranty offered and local market conditions.

why would you want this bike even with the damages? is it due to your budget? if you are on a budget and this is THE bike that fits your pocket, then go and take the bike for an inspection, get the pricing to get everything fixed and then tell him 4000 - cost to get new fairings + serviced + misc. maintainences...etc.. and then tell him the price of an approx ball park.

key point, don't take his word on whether the frame is straight or not, it's the mechanic's call. (and get a good mechanic)
If jack helped you off a horse would you help jack off a horse??

You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

It could be cheaper down the line to get a nicer bike. That one has rather high kms' and probably needs alot more than new fairings and paint job(brakes, clutch, valve adjustment, the list goes on)

Plus theres gotta be way cooler bikes out there than a 99 R6.
