So I get a call from the VPD this morning who said that Surrey RCMP recovered my bike and that it has been in a "collision". But that's all they know.
So I try my damnest to reach the Surrey RCMP constable who has found the bike and guess what? She calls me back a few hours later saying that the thief had hit a car, totalled the bike and they had him in custody.
As you can imagine, I jump for joy when I hear they caught the bastard and I ask "So you have him in custody then right?" To this she answers "Well actually we only keep in custody those with violent crimes". They let this fucker go?! Apparently he gave some story that he didn't steal it but borrowed it from the guy who did to go to the liquor store! Imagine that. I guess I gave bike thieves too much credit before, because what moron takes a stolen bike to buy a case of beer and what? Carries it in one hand on the bike while using the the other for steering, braking and clutching?
Anyways, I'm sure you guys are as eager as I am to get this guy's name and address... so how do I got about getting his info from the cops? Is it supposed to be public knowledge? If he's charged with something and goes to court is there a way I can find out?
Also, will ICBC still charge me a deductible if they have the perp? I hope they send him a nice big bill for the whole accident including the car he hit. Man I hope he hurt himself real badly.
