BCSB has occasionally been good to me over the years, so I thought I'd turn to you guys for some advice…
So, I basically took 2006 off from riding. I sold my motard near the beginning of spring to clear off my student loans and buy a home, but kept another shitty streetbike in case I needed it (an old GS400). I ended up going on maybe three rides last year, all on borrowed bikes (usually my dad's Monster).
Over the winter of 2007 I picked up another sportbike, an SV650S that was both track-ready and streetable. I was thinking this is the best of both worlds…I'd do a handful of trackdays, and start doing regular streetrides again. I haven't had a street-worthy sportbike since 2003, choosing to do trackdays, dirt-riding and supermoto instead.
But, what's happened since then? NOTHING! The SV has sat in my dad's garage gathering dust, I haven't had the time to switch it over to street-form, and I haven't had the time to attend any trackdays. I did the Duffy Lake loop two weekends ago, my first ride of the season, and that was also on dad's bike (again).
The streetride was okay, but after doing closed circuit riding for the last few years, I really felt too constrained and (honestly) unsafe on the street. I hit gravel patches a couple times, and luckily recovered (not my own bike mind you!), but it was enough to slow me down...unless I could see all the way through the corner and it was clear. That's BORING!
So, this is where I'm at. Streetriding doesn't really turn my crank like it did when I was a newbie, but I haven't had any time to do trackdays. Does anyone know of any upcoming trackdays that I could attend? I don't like taking days off work, because I'd rather save those for traveling (traveling > motorcycling). Oh man, I miss Boundary Bay.
Motard, now THAT was fun! That's something I'd like to do again…but seeing as my time is so limited, I don't feel right dropping another $7-$9,000 on a 'tard that I might ride 4 or 5 times this summer.
The untouched SV650 is what I have to deal with. Should I just sell it? Keep it in case I get a chance to ride it? It's not financially straining me or anything…sale proceeds would just go into my investment account (which is fun too ). Plus, dad wants it out of his garage if I'm not touching it.
So, there's my half rant / half plea for advice. What do you guys have to say???
