I have recently replaced (2 months ago) a regulator rectifier. Saturday, I turn my bike on (turn up my choke), put my lid on and see smokes start coming out of my tail....
turn off the bike, I smell my rectifier burnt.
I called the shop this morning. First he said "I never said there's warranty on the part" and then he said "it shouldn't stop the bike from starting up again".
Seems like a plug n' play fix - but I don't know if this is caused by something else.
Am I SOL?
Sorry if this has been a repost of similar topic. - I'm taking valuable company's time to be on bcsb and I pretty much typed this thread in a window that is the size of a blackberry.
sounds like the owner of modern motorcycles.
as far as i know a faulty reg/rec will stop the bike from starting up.
i'm guessing though that because it all worked fine for two months its not a faulty part but something else in the electrical system or an exposed wire melting on hot metal.
my only experience blowing a reg/rec was when i bought an old 83 gs that the owner had continually bump started and driven with a battery that wouldnt hold a charge...so i had to replace it.
could be something with your charging system, but i'm no pro mechanic.
ps.the crack at modern motorcycles, i've never been screwed by them, the few times i've been there, it's just that the owner talks to everyone like theyre idiots, but he will get you the parts you need.
I have a regulator /rectifier I can sell you for $25
