I recently got in a minor accident with my bike. I was riding within the speed limit. I just came out of a corner and applied some brake to slow down a bit as there was a car merging into my lane. It happened so quick, that Im not sure exactly what happened, but I think I locked my rear brake up. I found this suprising, as I wasnt braking very hard. I had my brakes checked a month and a half earlier by a reputable motorcyle shop in vancouver and they told me that I had %80 left on my rear brakes. I took my bike into a different shop today for a consultation, and they told me I have %0 rear brakes left...as in no rear brake. I have been using my rear brake this entire time, and I find that it still slowed me down, but was really grabby..and now I understand why. My question for you guys is do you think this could have played a role in my accident, and if so should the 1st bike shop be partly responsible for damages? I have put on about 5000km since I first had my brakes checked. Im in no way looking for a scape goat, or trying to blame this on the shop if it isnt their fault...but it makes me angry to think they let me out on the street with my brakes in such bad shape. I dont know very much about bike repair or maintenance..so I need to rely on the information that I get from the professionals.
