I was reading somewhere a few months ago that bone marrow transplants are not as painful as they were 10/20 years ago.

I am sure the net is filled with stuff on the subject.

    Bone Marrow Donor FAQs

Q: What is the process for donating marrow?
A: While the donor is under general anesthesia (or is given an epidural in some cases), a hollow needle is inserted into the back of the pelvic bone to collect the marrow. The procedure lasts from 45-90 minutes. The marrow will replace itself within several weeks.

It does hurt, but it's well worth it.

You can get the basic tissue typing for donation with a simple bloodtest for the registry. They'll only ever contact you if there's someone out there on the recipient list that's a match for you and that's quite rare. I don't think it's even a consideration unless that circumstance comes up. I'd rather be on the registry and then have to chose should there be a need rather than worry about the process of donation now.

I am on the bone marrow registry and the chances of you getting called to donate it are pretty slim, but its good to be available if needed. Bone marrow means life or death for some people.

Ive had a bone marrow transplant and no it doesnt hurt. Your under general anesthetic when they take out the marrow so it would be pretty hard for it to hurt. It goes into your hips just above your ass cheeks. The site is tender for like 2 days after but nothin worse than what youd get sittin on a bike for a weekend.

People who reply with stuff like "its really painful" and "it goes into your spine" should really read about the topic before they speak. By you sayin bs like that you may turn away potential donors and that could cost someone their life.

Most of my family has been on the donor list for a few years and no calls so far. I know of one lady who got called and was cryin for weeks before she went because she was so happy that she would be saving a life. Ive also heard that if you are selected for a transplant with a person who lives in say europe they will fly you there. Dont quote me on that cuz ive never heard of it happenin but that was the story goin around when my fiance went on the donor list.

Oh really? How much does it pay? The blood and semen banks won't take my fluids anymore.
