I've been gassing up my bike myself at gas stations, whether they are self-serve or full-serve. I just don't trust the attendants to get the nozzle in the filler neck without bouncing it off the tank a few times, like they do with my car. This has never been an issue until yesterday, when I stopped at the Esso station at the corner of Francis and #3 Road in Richmond on my bike to fill up. When I finished filling up my tank, a young kid rushed over to me and said "You shouldn't do that...this is full serve. Are you paying for the gas?" (His English wasn't very good, this was a rough translation from Cantonese-English).
I just looked at him and walked straight to the cashier counter. Of course, the kid was the cashier. He again told me that I "shouldn't do that". Again I ignored him and started looking for my wallet. He started rolling his eyes and making faces and again said "How are you going to pay for the gas you took?".
That's when I almost lost it....I found my wallet, slapped a $20 on the counter, got my change and got out of there.
Now...what do you guys do? Do you ALWAYS fill your own tanks regardless of the "service" offered at gas stations?
(I think this kid may have watched Mad Max too many times...)
