Had an accident today...
I was heading to work, going on my usual route. About 5-10 minutes away from home, I start climbing up a hill. There's a cargo truck in front of me (U-Haul type). Obviously, it starts to slow down since it can't handle the incline. I signal for a lane change, do a shoulder check, slowly start changing lanes and bring my head back to the front (all over a duration of 1 second). Suddenly the truck ahead of me is 1 meter away. I hit the front breaks and swerve left - BAM. Front side of the bike hits the truck, my upper body hits it flat on, I go down.
Speed was about 50km/h. Truck was white. I was wearing jeans, textile jacket, gloves, and obviously, a helmet.
I get up a second later and pull my bike up. Damn.
Me: Bruised index finger in the area of the nail (bleeding). Three dollar-coin sized bruises (cuts) on the right leg. One on the knee, one slightly below, one (deeper) on the back side.
Got checked out and cleaned up at a local clinic. Could have been much worse.
Bike: Repairable - winter project. Rode the bike home after my dad picked up the pieces. Canceling my insurance today and putting it away for this season.
Yet another lesson learned...
